Dental Suction Hoses & Tubing Australia: Buying Guide

Dental chair suction hoses and handpiece tubing wear out with daily use. Cracked suction hoses lose suction power, and damaged handpiece tubing can leak air or water. This guide explains the types of dental tubing available in Australia and how to choose the right replacement for your dental chair.

Types of Dental Tubing

Suction Hoses (High and Low Volume)

Dental chairs usually have a large-bore high-volume suction hose and a smaller low-volume saliva ejector hose. Common inside diameters include 8 mm, 11 mm, 15 mm, 17 mm and 19 mm. Our dental suction hose with suction head and 10.5 m strong and weak suction tubing suit many dental units, including KaVo and Sirona chairs.

Saliva Ejector Handles

Replacement strong and weak suction saliva ejector handles connect to the hose and hold disposable tips.

Handpiece Tubing

Handpiece tubing carries air, water, light and power from the chair to the handpiece. It comes in 2-hole, 4-hole and 6-hole fibre-optic versions, and motor cables for electric handpieces. Examples include 6-hole fibre-optic handpiece tubing for Sirona chairs, Sirona C8+ / Intego handpiece tube, the Sirona C8+ air-water syringe tube and the KaVo S600 motor cable.

Couplers

Quick couplers connect the handpiece to the tubing and let you swap handpieces quickly. See our LED quick coupler.

How to Choose a Replacement

  • Measure the inside diameter of the existing suction hose and the fitting it connects to.
  • Check the length you need from the chair to the assistant’s position.
  • Count the holes on handpiece tubing (2, 4 or 6) and check whether you need fibre-optic light.
  • Check the chair brand and model, especially for Sirona and KaVo-specific tubing.

Maintenance Tips

  • Flush suction lines daily with an approved suction cleaner.
  • Replace hoses that are cracked, stiff or discoloured.
  • Avoid kinking tubing when storing handpieces.
